When we launched Venture For ClimateTech in 2021 we set out to identify founders and innovators in the climate tech space with bold visions on how we could decarbonize our economies and how their technology could be applied to better New York State and the world at large.

In the first year of our program we ended with 9 companies from the 661 that had applied. Our portfolio of pre-seed/angel stage companies have in the 6 months since working with us closed over $4M in equity funding, over $8.2M in grants and non-dilutive funding sources, have grown their teams 2–4x, and have been accepted into some of the most prestigious seed to growth stage programs post. We could not be more proud of the successes earned by our incredible group of founders and look forward to meeting and supporting the next cohort for 2022!

So What Are We Looking For in 2022?

Our thesis hasn’t changed- We broadly are interested in companies developing technologies which have the potential to substantially reduce GHG emissions globally, and in the state of New York in particular. This often means technologies related to, but not limited to:

  • Transportation
  • Built environment
  • Energy grid, energy storage, energy generation
  • Regenerative agtech
  • Carbontech

We support software, hardware, and business model innovations.

However, this year in particular we are on the lookout for companies that are being built because new technologies now exist and are ripe for mass adoption or are well on their way. For example, business model innovations that will come about since EV adoption is growing and/or climate fintech and insurance innovations that work more effectively within the new models. Essentially, we are interested in founders and innovators who are thinking through the economic and systemic impacts of these new technologies being broadly adopted. We are also very interested in technologies that address the frontline communities that are impacted by the climate crisis.

Either way, don’t be shy, we are here to help! Whether you are accepted into our program or not, we are happy to open our community and resources to you. You can apply here!

A big thank you to our community of supporters, mentors, NYSERDA, SecondMuse, Nextcorps and board members. We are lucky to have you!
